An Act to amend the Protection of Animals Act 1911 to increase the penalties for offences against animals under section 1(1)

[15th May 1987] BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:–

1 Amendment of Protection of Animals Act

(2)   The above amendment does not apply in relation to offences committed before the commencement of this Act. NOTES Initial Commencement

Amendment

Sub-s (1): amends the Protection of Animals Act 1911, s 1(1).

Extent

This Act does not extend to Scotland: see s 2(4).

2 Short title, repeals, commencement and extent

(1)   This Act may be cited as the Protection of Animals (Penalties) Act 1987.

(2)    . . .

(3)   This Act shall come into force at the end of the period of two months beginning with the day on which it is passed.

(4)   This Act does not extend to Scotland or Northern Ireland. NOTES Initial Commencement

Amendment

Sub-s (2): repeals the Protection of Animals Act (1911) Amendment Act 1912, and the Criminal Law Act 1977, Sch 6, in part.

Extent

This Act does not extend to Scotland: see sub-s (4) above.
